Back in July Dawson Park opened for the first time after it was closed in October 2013 for a $2.7 million makeover. After 10 months of construction, on July 9th, the park was revealed to the neighborhood at a community concert featuring Karen Lovely. The renovations include modifications to the gazebo to make it more accessible and usable for concerts, a new walkway around the park, a new entry on Williams, a new water feature complete with historic interpretive boulders, a much improved playground area and more.
On July 16th the community was invited to the Grand Reopening Ceremony. The park was filled with attendees enjoying the community activities. The crowd heard from several guest speakers that shared history of the park as well as stories of the hard work to complete the renovation. In the end everyone agreed the revitalized park was a hit. Another free concert by Ocean 503 completed the evening.
Throughout the summer the park hosted two more concerts and a movie. Friends and families filled the park with fun and laughter more than ever. The renovations really brought the park back to life.
The design is so great it has won two awards. In November the Oregon chapter of American Society of Landscape Architects named Dawson Park the people’s choice award winner at the 2014 Design Awards. 2.Ink Studio was given a merit award in the design category for their wonderful work.
Eliot and the surrounding community is fortunate to have a newly renovated, award winning park that is rich with history right within our neighborhood.
