Planting a tree in your yard or parking strip has never been easier. Friends of Trees now offers an online form for ordering trees to plant during the Eliot Neighborhood planting on Saturday February 16th. Simply click on “Order Street Trees” at www.friendsoftrees.org and follow the directions. To allow time for the permitting process prior to your purchase, you must initiate your order by December 3rd.
The cost is $35 per tree based on grants Friends of Trees has secured to subsidize the actual $160 cost of the tree planting and follow-up monitoring. Donations to cover the remaining $125 in costs are welcome.
Tree choices with photos and facts are provided as part of the online ordering process. You can also view the selections by clicking on “search our trees” at http://www.friendsoftrees.org.
Friends of Trees brings people in the Portland-Vancouver area together to plant and care for city trees and urban natural areas. Since 1989, the more than 340,000 trees and shrubs that Friends of Trees has planted in the Portland-metro area have provided increasing benefits as they grow, cleaning more of our water and air and slowing global warming more each year. Our area’s increased tree cover, called “the Portland effect,” led to national recognition for Friends of Trees last year, including a national community tree planting award at the U.S. Conference of Mayors and The National Arbor Day Foundation’s decision to host a national Arbor Day celebration in Portland this April.
