CrossFit MLK Now Open

You may have noticed the recent activity at the American State Bank building on the corner of Graham and MLK. Over the past few months CrossFit MLK has been staging the building as a fitness center. CrossFit MLK opened earlier this month.

The American State Bank building was built in 1955 and served as a community bank for many years. In 2000 the branch operations were merged with Albina Community Bank. The building then served as a office for bank president Venerable Booker as well as storage of old banking equipment and an extensive art collection. For the last 3 years the building sat vacant.

Now the building is CrossFit MLK – a fitness center. So what is CrossFit exactly? CrossFit MLK is not your typical open gym but more of a fitness program. They hold classes that focus on 10 different areas of fitness designed for “true fitness not aesthetic fitness.” According to Executive Director Karen Disciascio, CrossFit MLK is the “official fitness trainers for KUPL’s Portland to Coast race team”. Soon, they will also have yoga classes.
