A musical tradition over 110 years in the making, Concerts in the Park offers something for everyone. The Rose City’s best and brightest – from classical to country, rock & roll to rhythm & blues – have been entrancing audiences in parks since 1901. Today’s crowds flock to Portland parks citywide for the revelry, with over forty thousand people attending 61 concerts offered in 2016.
This year, Black Parent Initiative will be enthusiastically hosting a three-part concert series at Dawson Park; located on the corner of NE Williams and Stanton, near Emanuel Hospital. Welcoming newcomers and concert veterans, families will be surrounded by community in a collective celebration of soulful music, activities, picnicking, and the beautiful weather that makes Portland summers a memorable time for all.

BPI is an organization dedicated to serving the community through family services. We believe that successful kids start with successful parenting; everything from pre-birth doula services to parents with kids in school. Black Parent Initiative’s mission is to provide culturally specific programming to transform the lives of families and children. Parents and children who have a strong sense of identity can achieve their dreams. We assist parents and caregivers in strengthening their involvement in the lives of their children, so their dreams can be realized.
