By Tess Fields, Executive Director, Home Share Oregon

Oregon is in an affordable housing crisis that threatens a stable future. While many equate homelessness with individuals who are suffering from addiction or mental illness, the reality is most individuals and families who are displaced or housing insecure, are gainfully employed or living on a fixed income.
Home Share Oregon is a non-profit organization committed to solving the affordable housing crisis in Oregon. Our mission is to prevent housing instability, foreclosure, and homelessness through home sharing. According to the Oregon census, there are 1.5 million owner occupied homes throughout the state of Oregon which have a spare bedroom. If only 2% of these homeowners decided to rent their spare bedroom, we could house 30,000 people. Home sharing is a time-tested tradition that communities all over the world use to create homes for more people and bring the community together.
We use state of the art technology and connect homeowners with great renters and roommates while providing the support they need to thrive.
The Home Share Oregon program provides:
- Rental listing service: list space in your home for rent to share with a housemate.
- Roommate matching based on compatibility.
- Secure message and background screens
- Lease generator and rent payment processing.
- Mediation and homes sharing support services.
- Additional support services for those who qualify!
