1.City Announcements were passed around and Public Comment voiced below:
a.Clint needs more content for our neighborhood website, http://www.eliotneighborhood.org, as does Tony Green for our newspaper. If you’d like to write news or add a blog, please talk to Clint.
b.Another Friends of Trees planting will happen on 2/14/09. Talk to Clint if you’re interested in volunteering.
c.Julia is selling Chinook Books (coupon books) to benefit the VOA Al Forthan Scholarship Fund, awarded to Portland graduating seniors. Books cost $20. Call Julia if you’re interested: 503-802-0299.
d.The owners of the old dry cleaners across from Pizza A Go Go seem to be cutting corners and disrespectful with some activities (spotlight and noisy generator left on all night). DEQ is aware of their activities, as it is considered a “brown field.”
2.Community Policing with Officer Pete Helzer
a.Officer Helzer was not present. There has been no word from Pete and there is a good deal of confusion.
b.Penelope reports an officer came to her shop to let her know about recent assaults. Two couples and one man were beaten (kicked) close to death in these assaults where aggression seems to be the motivation, not robbery. Be aware of your surroundings and walk in groups as much as possible.
c.Contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 503-823-5700 if you have questions.
3. Committee Reports
a.Land Use: Morning Star Baptist Church had modern plans for rebuilding, which were denied. They now have an opportunity to appeal. The ambiguity continues around Emanuel’s plans to improve Russell and their parking structure. Gary will try to get some clear answers to present at January’s meeting.
b.NECN: Pauline Bradford will continue to represent ENDA and Naomi Sacks agrees to serve for three months. There is no meeting in December but a Christmas party on 12/18. Someone is still needed to serve on the NECN Public Safety Action Committee.
c.NECN Land Use: Laurie Simpson continues to represent ENDA.
4.Ideas and Events for 2009: newsletter, neighborhood clean-up, Neighborhood Emergency Response Teams, bring the birds back to Dawson Park (free feeders, more songbirds)…
5.Next meeting: Monday, January 12 at 7pm.
Motion to adjourn meeting (and eat!) at 7:47pm from Gary, seconded by Julia. Unanimous approval.
Respectfully submitted by Julia Peters, ENDA Recorder, 12/17/08.
