The Eliot Neighborhood Friends of Trees planting will be on Saturday February 11th. Volunteers are needed to help make this planting a success. It’s a great way to get to know your neighbors and help improve the neighborhood.
Help Plant Trees

In partnership with Friends of Trees, Eliot Neighborhood is planning another tree planting event this winter. Join us Saturday February 11th to help plant trees and create a healthier community!
The Summer in September Jambalaya Festival and Barbecue in Dawson Park, a benefit for the Martin Luther King Jr. Loaves & Fishes Center, was a big success. The event raised more than $20,000 to serve needy seniors in Northeast Portland making it one of the most successful in its six-year history.
The other day while walking to work I passed by the triangle where MLK and Grand come together at Hancock. I noticed the sign announcing construction for the new gateway project to begin Spring 2011. Then I recalled all the hubabalu about the project last May. I was angry that our neighborhood lost out on a positive change due to the whining of a few.
Eliot Neighborhood now has a page on Facebook! Like us, let’s be friends.
The Unscriptables, an unscripted theatre company, will host 2 performances in Dawson park on Sundays in August. Shows are on the 7th, 14th and 21st starting at 1pm and 3pm. The first show is geared more toward kids with a “G” rating the the second show toward a slightly older audience with a “PG” rating. All shows are free!
Here is more information on the shows:

The Dawson Park concert series kicked off with a bang featuring Obo Addy & Okropong. The Ghanaian drums and dance were a hit with people of all ages. The following week the Hillstomp show was postponed due to weather. The concert series continued on July 20 with the Dirty Syncopators followed by Lisa Mann and Her Really Good Band on the 27th.
Dawson Park will host four free concerts this summer! The gazebo will be the stage for the live performances. Concerts begin at 6:30 PM and last about 2 hours. Best of all, the concerts are free!
2011 lineup:
Since 1925, Dawson Park has been at the core of this cuturally diverse community. Over the years, the neighborhood has changed and grown, as has the role of the park. Portland Parks needs your input on new design options that best meet the needs of the community today!
The Eliot Neighborhood Spring Cleanup is Saturday May 15th. Do you have a truck? Can you spare a few hours helping neighbors clean up?
At the Eliot Neighborhood April General Membership Meeting concert planners Tamille Lundmark and Pamela Weatherspoon announced the concert schedule. Dawson Park will host 4 concerts this season – every Wednesday evening in July.
Spring is slowly but surely coming, and with it comes the reopening of the popular King Portland Farmers Market! on Sunday, May 1 at 10 AM.
