We are very fortunate to have the climate and natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest literally outside our door. So of course there are folks who want to share their enthusiasm for being outside with others. Walking in Portland is a way of life, a past time, an exercise method, some might say religion, too (Forest Therapy is a thing). Some of our options for walking with others are guided walks, volunteer led group walks, and self-guided walks.

Advanced Technology Charts More Precise Paths Through the Brain

Legacy Emanuel Medical Center is the first hospital in Oregon to acquire an advanced robotic imaging and navigation system for more precise brain tumor removal and spinal surgeries.

The Synaptive BrightMatter technology integrates pre-operative imaging, surgical planning and robotic visualization to give neurosurgeons the ability to see relevant details in the brain not visible to the human eye, which may allow for much safer surgical intervention.

Eliot Clean Up— A Great Success

On Saturday, May 13, the Eliot Neighborhood Association held its annual Spring Clean Up event.  Close to 30 volunteers gathered in the Legacy Emanuel Parking Lot at the corner of N Williams and N Graham for four hours to collect residents junk, reusable household items and furniture, books, toys, bicycles, clothes and shoes.  Residents came in cars, trucks and even on bikes with awesome trailers!

City Council Approves Grant to Fund Clean Start PDX

A few months ago Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods and members of Eliot neighborhood met to discuss trash and livability issues in our inner northeast neighborhoods. Eliot has seen an increase in litter and debris related to the Moda Center and homelessness. We agreed to talk to Central City Concern about their Clean Start Program.

It’s that time of year again when we get the urge to do a bit of spring cleaning and get rid of all that clutter that has been gathering in our closets, basements and garages.  How convenient that the Eliot Neighborhood Association is organizing it’s annual spring clean-up event where you can bring  items that you no longer want that someone else may have been pining for and throw away that broken chair that’s taking up valuable real estate in your shed.

When: Saturday, May 13 from 10 am -2 pm

“Just call me Darcelle,” says the new Guinness Book of World Records holder as we get started with our interview. Darcelle, born Walter Cole, has brought fame to our Eliot neighborhood and the city of Portland in the form of a world record for being the world’s oldest, still performing Drag Queen. However, before he was Darcelle XV, Cole was an entrepreneur. His business ventures survived urban renewal multiple times in rapidly changing city.

Redfin predicts Eliot as the 5th Hottest Neighborhood in the Country for 2017!

Redfin, the next-generation real estate brokerage, has announced its annual list of neighborhoods across the country it predicts will be the hottest this year. To rank the neighborhoods that are heating up the most, the brokerage analyzed hundreds of millions of pageviews to Redfin.com and homes that users saved to their favorites to monitor for price and status changes. The analysis also takes into account insights from local Redfin real estate agents who specialize in the local neighborhoods.
