Did you know that community acupuncture is happening all around Portland? You may have heard someone mention a “community” or “group” acupuncture clinic they’d been to, but wondered what exactly they were talking about.

We have a bargain-hunting lover’s paradise right here in our neighborhood! If you don’t know about the Title Wave Bookstore you will want to check it out. It is located at 216 NE Knott between MLK and Rodney Avenue.

Uroboros is a company named for a symbol of a dragon eating its tail – symbolic of alchemy, the “ancient art” of turning base metals into gold. Eliot’s Uroboros combines sand and other ingredients to produce art glass in 150 sophisticated color combinations in over a dozen styles and textures. Uroboros colors stem from chemicals used in making the glass. Gold produces pinks and purples, copper green, red or aqua blue, cobalt deep blue, and so on. Textures result from rollers used on the molten glass, and manipulation, such as pushing the molten glass to produce ripples.
If you have been around Russell Street near MLK recently you probably noticed a new hip store in the neighborhood called Adorn. The small urban clothing and accessory shop opened last September in the same building as Project Hope.
A few weeks ago The Leotard made the move from the Lloyd Center Mall to Eliot Neighborhood. They opened their doors earlier this month in the Black and White building on the corner of MLK and Brazee.
With the Portland biking community growing rapidly and with Williams and Vancouver being a designated bike route, it is not too surprising to see a new bike shop spring up on Williams. Metropolis Cycle Repair moved from SE Portland to Eliot Neighborhood in October.
Every morning, Sundays excepted, a man and his dog stand outside of the pretty Spanish Renaissance Revival building at 216 NE Knott, waiting for the doors to open at 10:00. Originally a library designed by Ellis Lawrence in 1912, it now houses Title Wave, one of the most unique bookshops in Portland, where the videos, DVDs, music CDs and books retired from the Multnomah County Library (MCL) system are sold.

Ok, I’m a typical guy and I waited until the last minute to do most of my holiday shopping. I like the holiday season, but shopping is not my favorite part and there are a lot of places I would rather be than in the mall during the holiday season. As I was trying to figure out what to get my wife I thought about doing a themed gift package. I decided I would get her gifts from Eliot.
A few Sundays ago the Seattle Seahawks were not playing football. My wife and I were doing some shopping, however midway through the day I was burned out and she continued. With no football to watch I needed something to do so I followed the white and black signs on the corner of Russell and MLK to the Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Show.
For a long time my wife and I have had this idea to taste in the lower Albina area of Eliot. Being busy like everyone else, we finally, after many months, implemented the plan. Stereotypically I prefer beer and my wife prefers wine. Of course that’s not say I don’t enjoy a good wine now and then and her a good beer. On this day we were both happy.

The other day I was walking home from work. I work near the Lloyd Center Mall, so I try to get my daily exercise by walking. Anyway, as I was walking through the Nike Outlet parking lot I smelled coffee in the air. It’ wasn’t the familiar coffee smell like experienced on a Saturday morning in Goldrush Coffee Bar, it was something different.
