If you have an upcoming home remodel or other improvement project that will create waste from the construction site, you’ll want to know about steps you can take to protect your health and reduce your exposure to asbestos. You’ll also want to make sure your materials don’t contain asbestos, and if they do, you’ll want to know how to handle and dispose of them properly.
Environmental Services is designing a project to construct, replace, or repair up to 10,000 feet of public sewer pipes in the southern portion of the Eliot Neighborhood. Many of the existing combined sewer pipes are deteriorating due to age or are undersized for the sewer and stormwater flows in this area. This project is one of many that will protect the public and the environment by reducing the possibility of sewage releases to homes, businesses and streets.

A good work ethic, a job, and a savings plan paid off for Amelia Acala. Before her senior year started, she was rolling in a car purchased with money saved from her customer service job with Legacy Emanuel’s Food and Nutrition Services.

Redfin predicts Eliot as the 5th Hottest Neighborhood in the Country for 2017!
Redfin, the next-generation real estate brokerage, has announced its annual list of neighborhoods across the country it predicts will be the hottest this year. To rank the neighborhoods that are heating up the most, the brokerage analyzed hundreds of millions of pageviews to Redfin.com and homes that users saved to their favorites to monitor for price and status changes. The analysis also takes into account insights from local Redfin real estate agents who specialize in the local neighborhoods.

The Adopt-A-Block initiative is gaining some traction, adding new folks slowly but surely. Below is a list of your neighbors who are interested in making Eliot a safer and more pleasant environment in which to live. Let me know if you are interested in keeping your block free of litter and the storm drains flowing and I’ll add your name to the list which will be published periodically.
In celebration of MLK Day, the Red Cross will be in the Boise and Eliot neighborhoods on January 14 checking and installing free smoke alarms!

At our October 8th litter pick-up event, 15 volunteers showed up and spent two hours cleaning up the Eliot neighborhood. We bagged and loaded about 130 pounds of litter into Jere Fitterman’s car to be hauled to the dump.

In the early 1940s, Floyd Standifer could be found playing his trumpet to the hills. He would listen as the sound came echoing back. This was the way, in the farmlands outside of Gresham, he worked on perfecting his tone. However, he also learned a lot from Williams Avenue in Portland.
On June 13, 2016, James Kyser, M.D., of the Pediatric Cardiology Center of Oregon, became the first and only pediatric cardiologist in the state to provide the Edwards SAPIEN XT transcatheter heart valve procedure for pulmonic valve replacement to pediatric patients. This procedure took place just two months after the FDA approval.
