Reverend Nat’s Cidery

Rev Nats EntranceReverend Nat West (yes, he really is a Reverend) started his Hard Cider journey from a  friend’s apple trees with lots of extra apples. What started with 5 gallons of hard cider in his garage has turned into using 200 million of apples per year to create over 20,000 gallon of cider in inventory in a warehouse turned cidery in the Eliot neighborhood.

Widmer Brothers Brewing

Widmer Sign

In 1979 home brewing was legalized in Oregon. Kurt and Rob Widmer, having trouble finding a beer that they liked in Portland, decided to embark upon the adventure of making beer for themselves and friends. Five years later, they decided to turn their hobby into a career and cobbled together funds to open their brewery.  They scrounged up parts and opened in an industrial space in what now is the Pearl District.

Letter from Eliot News Editor

EliotNewsFall15There’s a lot going on in Eliot.  From events this past summer sponsored by Legacy Emanuel Medical Center and Portland Parks and Recs to National Night Out, summer was definitely not boring.  Fall gives us a chance to regroup as we start a new school year and we hope to bring to your attention some awareness about new businesses in Eliot, future changes to our neighborhoods and business districts, and unfortunately point out how to avoid the brazen bike thieves that seem to be so very busy lately.

Neighbors in Recovery Give Back

VOA
VOA MRC Building

I don’t want to be selfish and want to be the best person I can be”.  This is a quote from a new neighbor you may not have met yet. You also may not be familiar with at least 50 other new neighbors who want you to know how much they appreciate being in this neighborhood.  They reside in the building at MLK and NE Sacramento, which is the home of the Volunteers of America Men’s Residential Center.  It is the place that 52 men call home for 6 months while overcoming addiction and working on recovery.  They are our neighbors and they would like Eliot to know a little more about them, how they are helping our neighborhood and the program that they are going to be graduating from.
