Fall Plastic Recycling Roundup
In October you can recycle all that plastic that is not recyclable in your new blue roll cart. The Master Recycling Program is holding the Plastic Recycling Roundup on October 4th at Kaiser Permanente in North Portland.
2008 Concert Series
One of the things I like most about our neighborhood is being able to walk a few short blocks for food and entertainment. In July my wife and I along with the dog packed up a picnic and walked to Eliot’s Dawson Park to see free concerts. This year Dawson Park hosted three “Summer Concerts in Portland Parks” on Wednesdays in July and we attended them all.
Movie in Irving Park
On Friday August 22 nearby Irving Park will be hosting Portland Park and Recreation’s “Movies in the Park”.

Last Friday I had that end of week feeling. You know the one that starts about an hour before you’re off work on Friday. It happens whether your Friday is actually Friday or another day. At the time my mind was wandering, thinking about sitting outside drinking a nice cold beer. Once I got home my wife and I decided to walk over to Alu for some wine, beer and great food.

By now Eliot residents should have received their new recycling roll carts. You should have gotten a large green one for yard debris and a large blue one for plastic, paper and metal. Now that you have them, how do you use them most effectively to reduce reuse and recycle?

Can and Bottle Donation a Success
In November Volunteers of America Men’s Residential Center announced they were collecting returnable cans and bottles. The proceeds are used for a scholarship fund for Portland area high school students. The program has been a success and continues.

Multi-Craft Building update
The Mercury has a sneak preview of the former Multi-Craft Building, which is located just outside Eliot between North Broadway and Weidler near the I-5 southbound off-ramp.
The building once housed a jazz claub called the Dude Ranch.
Boise-Eliot School Earns 2008 Celebrating Student Success Award
State Schools Superintendent Susan Castillo named sixteen Oregon public schools that have made significant progress in closing the achievement gap. The announcement was made in April at a press conference at Boise-Eliot School in Portland.
