It’s the annual Friends of Trees (FoT) Planting in NE Portland! The event commenced Saturday morning February 13th. The day began rather dreary but as my husband rallied the crowd to a chant of “It never rains on planting day!” the drizzle stopped for a few hours while about a hundred people came together to help plant trees.

Return of the Trees
Crews from the City of Portland replanted trees in the median along MLK in mid –May. Prior to the planting about half of the tree wells along the boulevard sat empty and bare.
Valentine’s Day Tree Planting
There are 13 more trees in Eliot Neighborhood thanks to the Friends of Trees planting on Saturday February 14. Eliot Neighborhood received a Valentine’s Day gift of trees along with Boise, King, Humbolt, Peidmont and Sabin neighborhoods.

Friends of Trees Planting
Friends of Trees will be planting trees in Eliot Neighborhood on Saturday February 16th. In addition to Eliot, trees will be planted in Boise, King, Humbolt, Overlook and Piedmont the same day. The staging area for the planting is the Friends of Trees Office, 3117 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, rain, snow, or shine.

Planting a tree in your yard or parking strip has never been easier. Friends of Trees now offers an online form for ordering trees to plant during the Eliot Neighborhood planting on Saturday February 16th. To allow time for the permitting process prior to your purchase, you must initiate your order by December 3rd.

The Portland Fruit Tree Project
There is a lot of fruit growing on trees in Portland, but every year, thousands of pounds of this delicious organic food ends up in a sticky mess in yards and on sidewalks.
The Portland Fruit Tree Project organizes people in Portland to gather fruit before it falls, and make it available to those who need it most. The project registers fruit trees around the city, coordinates harvesting parties and offer workshops in pruning and fruit preservation.
New Trees in Eliot
On February 16 Friends of Trees held a neighborhood planting event for Boise, Humbolt, King, Piedmont, Overlook as well as Eliot neighborhood. In all 280 trees were planted in the 6 neighborhoods – 28 of those in Eliot.
